Azure SQL AI Features

Azure SQL Database provides AI-powered features for performance optimization and development assistance. Copilot in Azure SQL Database (preview) offers natural language to T-SQL conversion, performance insights in plain English, and troubleshooting assistance, currently at no additional cost during preview. Automatic Tuning uses ML to identify and apply query performance improvements: automatic plan correction (reverting regression), automatic index management (create/drop recommendations), and automatic statistics updates. Query Performance Insight surfaces top resource-consuming queries with recommendations. Intelligent Query Processing (IQP) includes adaptive query processing, memory grant feedback, batch/row mode optimizations, and table variable deferred compilation. GitHub Copilot integration (MSSQL Extension v1.37+ for VS Code) provides schema-aware AI assistance with /connect, /runQuery, and /showSchema commands.
